Windies all-rounder Andre Russell is set to return to One-day International cricket after a prolonged gap. The cricketer last played 50-over format, for his country way back in November 2015. Russell found his name in the 13-man squad for the three-match series against Bangladesh.

The series will begin on July 22 in Guyana. Pacer Alzarri Joseph and all-rounder Kieron Pollard will make their way back too.

Meanwhile, Marlon Samuels, Carlos Brathwaite, Nikita Miller, Sheldon Cottrell, and Kesrick Williams have been dropped from the ODI squad.

These cricketers were last seen in action during the World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe earlier this year.

Russell back in action for the Windies:

Russell scored 41 off 24 balls in his last ODI against Sri Lanka. He also suffered an injury which ruled him out of the remaining two games. That was the lone ODI where he featured apart from the 2015 World Cup.

“Great to have Dre Russ back as well. His explosive power and energy will breathe life into an already motivated squad,” Windies coach Stuart Law said in a CWI press release announcing the squad for the Bangladesh series.

Setbacks and return:

The cricketer has served a ban of one year while violating anti-doping regulations. The world body ICC then charged Russell for failing to file his whereabouts paper on three occasions within a year.

Eventually, it resulted in a failed doping test under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules.

Also, the prominent all-rounder went on to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Indian Premier League (PSL).

Moreover, the hard-hitting batsman didn’t play for his country in the qualifiers as he wanted to earn back the confidence in the particular format first.

West Indies ODI Squad:

Jason Holder (capt), Devendra Bishoo, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope (wk), Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Ashley Nurse, Keemo Paul, Kieran Powell, Rovman Powell, Andre Russell.
