Lancashire County Cricket Club, on Tuesday (September 26), announced the appointment of former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff as a board member of the club and former England fast bowler Paul Allott as the role of Director of Cricket.
The two-time Ashes-winning player will join the club’s board which also includes former bowler James Sheridan, who has been the chairman of the LCCC Foundation since its inception five years ago. The Lancashire Cricket Board has been merged with the LCCC foundation to form the Lancashire Cricket Foundation whose role will be to enhance growth in both participation and attendance across the game throughout the region the coming years.
Expressing his delight over his new role, Flintoff said:
“I am hugely honoured to have been asked to join the Board and even more delighted to accept. I have talked to the Chairman about the future and what the Club and the new Lancashire Cricket Foundation wish to achieve, and it is a hugely exciting time for the game of cricket in Lancashire, and one that I am proud to be part of and contribute to.”
One of the best allrounders to have represented England, Flintoff played 79 Tests, 141 ODIs and 7 T20Is, scoring more than 7000 runs across formats in addition to picking up 400 wickets during his illustrious career. Flintoff also represented Lancashire in close to 250 games.
David Hodgkiss, LCCC chairman, meanwhile, spoke about the club’ goal, stating that the county outfit is aiming to become the best cricket club in the world.
“Our vision is to be the best cricket club in the world. We want to inspire and provide the best possible experience to people on and off the pitch. We’ve created a strong sustainable foundation for the Club following the redevelopment of the venue. The next steps are to ensure we have the right structure to grow the game, enhance our legacy and build an even better future for cricket in the county of Lancashire,” Hodgkiss said.
