Former Zimbabwe great Andy Flower reckons that he admires both Virat Kohli and Steve Smith for what they have achieved in their Test career and it is difficult for him to pick one between the two.
Steve Smith was recently awarded the ICC’s Test Player of the Decade for his magnificent contribution to Australia and the cricket world. Having made the Test debut in 2010, Smith has, as of now, played 75 Test matches and scored a staggering 7237 runs at an outstanding average of 61.33, with 26 hundreds to his name.
In a recent interview with Times of India, Andy Flower has reasoned why Smith has attained so much success in Test cricket. He said that Smith has adapted and evolved his game which has led him to the top.
“Well, it would be difficult to pick between them. (Steve) Smith has done amazingly well in Test cricket. I have been surprised by how well he’s done. But he’s shown that he can adapt his game and that’s a wonderful quality to be able to adapt and evolve and develop like Smith has done,” Andy Flower said.
Virat Kohli and Steve Smith are role models: Andy Flower
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has been named the captain of the Test team of the Decade and the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Decade.
The aggressive Indian captain took his side to the top of the ICC Test’s team ranking. With his team’s progress, his individual performance improved in leaps and bound, breaking all the cricketing records.
Andy Flower also heaped praise on Virat Kohli and believes the 32-year-old is always hungry to score more runs. He feels this hunger has developed Kohli into one of the finest batsmen of the modern era.
And at last, he has concluded that he can not pick one between Smith and Kohli
“(Virat) Kohli is incredibly skillful, hungry (for runs), and likes combat. He likes the battle. And I really admire that in him. I admire his energy which is up all the time. I think they have both (Virat Kohli and Steve Smith) got very good leadership traits. They’re good role models. I know Steve Smith has had a few battles in that area, obviously. But I admire them both and I’m not going to pick one or the other,” Andy Flower asserted.
Meanwhile, Steve Smith will be looking to break a low string of runs in the third Test match against India who are playing without their regular captain Virat Kohli.
