Indian Head Coach Anil Kumble says India stood well against English challenge.

Anil Kumble, the former India captain and the former Head Coach, is in the race to win the award for Best Coach of the Year.

Kumble will compete with Bisheshwar Nandi of gymnastics, Balwan Singh of Kabaddi, Harendra Singh of Hockey and Vijay Davecha of Golf, for the award which would be given for the first time.

Incidentally, RP-SG Group, which has moved the idea of honouring various people in different categories, is associated with Virat Kohli foundation.

Kumble exited the India backroom staff citing untenable relation with skipper Kohli, and now, a Group associated with Virat’s foundation has nominated him for the award. It would be interesting to see whether Kumble wins the award or not.

Anil Kumble got appointed as the Head Coach of Indian cricket team in June in 2016. As per the reports, his disagreement with skipper started right from the start, as he wanted skipper to give Cheteshwar Pujara a more extended run while skipper didn’t want this.

Following that, team India had a good home season, and both Kumble and Virat earned praise. In the penultimate game of the season though, again, there was a disagreement when Kumble wanted to play Kuldeep in the Ranchi Test against Australia while Kohli objected.

Kuldeep made his Test debut as soon as Kohli missed the next Test match due to a shoulder injury. Ajinkya Rahane led the team in that game.

Since Kumble was issued a contract for one year, he went with the team for the ICC Champions Trophy. It came to notice that Kohli and Kumble weren’t on talking terms during the tournament and Kohli even did opposite at the toss in the final, then what was being decided in the team meeting.

It was just a matter of day when Kumble tendered his resignation and decided not to travel to West Indies, even when he was given an extension by BCCI.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) had even written a letter for Kumble to stay as coach but he didn’t do so due to the untenable relation with the skipper.

Now it just the game of fate that Kumble is one of the nominees for the best coach award of the year.
