Anil Kumble Reacts After Resigning As Head Coach, Hints About Virat Kohli’s Role

It seemed inevitable and just a matter of time before disaster would strike the Indian camp. Head coach Anil Kumble, who had been at the helm of affairs of the team since July 2016 announced his resignation just prior to the team’s limited overs tour of the Caribbean. This comes as shaking news for all stakeholders of Indian cricket, who wanted to persist with Kumble as the head coach.
On the evening of 20th June, exactly 365 days after being named as India’s head coach, Kumble called it quits and didn’t even travel with the team to the Caribbean. This means that most likely, batting coach Sanjay Bangar would take over as the head coach of the side for the time being.
Apparently, it is believed that a rift between skipper Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble ultimately led to the latter’s resignation. This comes after a disastrous loss endured by team India against Pakistan in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy.
Kumble finally reacted to the entire episode in a tweet, where in he posted his image, describing his state. In the statement, Kumble has apparently hinted about his shaky equation with skipper Virat Kohli and opened about his mindset.

An official statement from the BCCI too seconded Kumble’s resignation. “While the Cricket Advisory Committee had endorsed an extension to his tenure as head coach, Mr Anil Kumble has decided not to continue as the coach,” the BCCI’s statement said.
“The CAC is likely to have told BCCI that the differences were not cricketing related but more of a personal nature,” the statement said. “If he were to stick on, it would be very awkward on Anil’s part. It is not good to handle someone as big as Anil in this manner.”
