Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who grabbed eyeballs after holding his nerve in the second Twenty20 International against England to help India to level the three-match series 1-1 at Nagpur, ahead of the third ODI at Bengaluru, Bumrah said he is working hard with the head coach Anil Kumble to keep his foot well behind the bowling crease.
“I’ve been working on that Anil (Kumble) sir in the last match as well. Before that also (he said) ‘measure your run-up, work something out with the tape. We are working on that, and hopefully we can control that as well,” Bumrah said.
The 23-year-old Bumrah conceded just two runs in the last over of the match in which he picked Joe Root on the first ball before wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler perished as India won the thriller by five runs when Moeen Ali missed the full-toss.
Bumrah, who conceded 20 runs in his four overs in second T20, also expressed that 37-year-old senior bowler Ashish Nehra has given him vital tips who was seen guiding the rookie at Napur during the penultimate over.
“He’s always been helpful. I’ve played a few matches with him, and his guidance is always valuable,” added Bumrah.
Adding to the frustration, Bumrah shattered the stumps when top-order batsman Joe Root was batting, but replays suggested he landed his foot well outside the crease, before he returned to hit the stumps on a free-hit.
During the T20I series, Indian bowlers struggled to keep foot well behind the crease against England which included leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who bowled Ben Stokes in the second T20I.
“He’s played a lot of international cricket. He has a lot of experience to share with us. In tough situations he helps us, (he tells us) that ‘you can do this or according to the wicket you can do that,” remarked Bumrah.
Both teams would be battling hard to clinch the T20 series as the decider is scheduled in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
