Anil Kumble's Decision Behind Ramachandra Guha's Resignation? 1

Ramachandra Guha has cited personal reasons for his resignation from the Committee of Administrators (COA) on Friday.

The apex court had on January 30 appointed the four-member Committee of Administrators (COA) – headed by former comptroller and auditor general Vinod Rai – to run the affairs of BCCI and implement court-approved recommendations of the Justice R.M. Lodha panel on reforms in the cash-rich cricket body.

Despite Guha’s claim of “personal reasons”, his resignation from the COA could be linked to the speculation surrounding Anil Kumble’s future as India coach. He didn’t discuss the matter of resignation and according to his colleagues, it was very sudden.

“No, I had no clue about his resignation as he never told me anything about it. I only came to know from media,” a COA member told PTI today.

He was unhappy about the rifts going between Indian Players and Anil Kumble and about the whole speculations going around that.

“He has a thorough knowledge of sports history and is a learned man. But running cricket administration is a different ballgame. In any case, whether it’s ICC or BCCI matters, it’s Vinod Rai and Vikram Limaye, who were doing the hard yards,” a senior BCCI official, said after learning about his resignation.

“One is right that Anil Kumble did not voluntarily ask for a pay hike. He was certainly told by COA to give a presentation. But the seeds of this idea were sown during the BCCI Annual Awards function in Bengaluru.”, the official said. “Guha was one of the advocates of a hike but he was clueless about percentages and rationale that goes in financial dealings,” he added.

Though Guha’s counsel requested Justices Shantanagoudar and Gupta to take his application on record, the bench asked the counsel to file it in the registry. It said,
“This matter relating to BCCI is being heard by a special bench. We will not like to hear it. Let it come up before the special bench when it takes up the main issue.”
Guha’s counsel said the matter was scheduled to be heard only on July 14.
