The ongoing second semi-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy between Bengal and Jharkhand on Saturday saw yet another crazy fan gate-crashing to meet Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The incident happened after the former India skipper came into bat post the dismissal of Saurabh Tiwary. The fan came in running from the sight screen area and rushed towards Dhoni and returned after touching the feet of his idol. This antic caused a small yet exciting interruption in the game, which saw crowd getting engaged with loud cheer and roars.
A similar incident took place a few days ago when three bothers from Chennai travelled more than 3000 kms to meet Mahendra Singh Dhoni. After several attempts to get in touch with Dhoni, the brothers eventually dropped the venue with messages on placards. To their bad luck, this desperate effort also failed. However, the oldest one of the trio, Ashok touched Dhoni’s feet but was later taken away by security guards.
Ever since retiring from the Test format, Dhoni has diverted his attention towards his state side Jharkhand. During the Ranji Trophy last season, he mentored the team to the semi-final for the first time. It was the soothing effect which he provided from the sidelines that inspire the rookie names of the low-rung team to outperform better teams and advance to the knockouts.
Currently, he is representing Jharkhand in the 50-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy. So far, he has been wonderful and has scored 298 runs in eight games including one century.
