Indian captain MS Dhoni has already got a large number of records to his name. He now holds the world record of having most number of stumping with 134 stumping in international cricket. Yesterday when he stumped Mitchell Johnson off the bowling of Indian off spinner R Ashwin during the on-going third test at MCG, he overtook the record of most stumping of 133 stumping, earlier held by Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka.
In fact, if one closely looks at the tally of most stumping, he will notice that most of the top wicketkeepers done excellent in stumping belong to Asia. The reason is pretty simple. The spinners provide most opportunities of stumping to the wicketkeeper.
As the countries like South Africa and Australia really do not have many spinners with them, and they rely on their pacers instead. Thus, their wicket-keepers do not get opportunity to stump many batsmen.
In any case our 33 years old vibrant captain is doing his duties behind the stumps very efficiently and surely his efforts needs to be applauded.
