Anshuman Gaekwad Backs Anil Kumble, Says He Did Nothing Wrong

One theory says that both Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli weren’t on talking terms from past six months whereas other theory claims that it was the scolding of Anil Kumble after the loss in the final against Pakistan which led to his exit.

Out of the two, the second one looks the genuine one as if both Kohli and Kumble weren’t in talks with each other from half a year, then why would BCCI have offered Kumble an extension for one series?

Talking of the second theory, can a coach take on players after such an abysmal show in the final? Coaches have done this in past if talk about the spin legend Bishan Singh Bedi, who did it when he was the coach of Indian cricket team but it’s not the case in today’s world. Kumble did it and the results are here.

Just a day after the conclusion of Champions Trophy the most successful bowler for India in Tests and ODIs resigned. Many would find it a mistake which Kumble committed by taking on players but former two-time India coach and batsman, Anshuman Gaekwad, think the other way,

“I don’t know what happened there, but if I have to make an opinion based on what has been reported in the media, I don’t think Kumble did anything wrong. As coach of the team, he was bound to feel disappointed with the way the team lost. Wins and losses are part and parcel of the game, but Kumble must have been disappointed with the manner of the defeat and he must have said something. He is bound to because as a coach you are involved in the game as much as a player is,” Gaekwad told mid-day.

“Different individuals have different ways of functioning. Someone else may have waited and talked later, but Kumble perhaps didn’t. Someone perhaps would have liked to be a bit methodical, but here Kumble was perhaps instinctive — nothing wrong in that,” he added.

Surely, Kumble did no wrong by taking on players but it is to be noted that the players would have been also been disappointed with the way India lost the game, despite having an advantage of winning the toss and deciding what to do first.

Moving ahead, the Kohli-Kumble fiasco has almost come to an end with Kohli not opening up regarding the matter. He just dodged down the question safely when asked about Kumble’s exit from team India and stressed on maintaining the sanctity of the dressing room.

Team India looks unfazed by outgoing of Kumble. Not even a single player has sent out a message for one of the successful coaches of team India, which says it all. Meanwhile, BCCI has extended the last date to apply for the post of Head Coach of Indian cricket team and this time, we might see oodles of applications flying in BCCI office.
