He has replaced Karn Sharma who has shifted his base to Vidarbha for the upcoming season. The selectors had options in the form of Mahesh Rawat, who has led the team earlier but Anureet emerged out as the final choice.
An experienced bowler of 55 first-class games, it will be the first time Anureet will lead the Railways team. He made his first-class debut for Railways in 2008/09 season against Karnataka and also represented the side in List A format the very next year. The same year, he went on to make his T20 debut for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2009 in South Africa. He was part of Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2017.

Anureet had also played for India A in 2014 when he was selected for the tour to Australia.
Meanwhile, Railways will open it’s Ranji Trophy campaign on October 6 against Uttar Pradesh at Green Park in Kanpur. Their next contest will be at their home ground, i.e. Karnail Singh stadium, where they will be up against a strong Delhi side led by Ishant Sharma. Railways’ next four games will come against Assam, Hyderabad, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
The team will badly miss out on the services of Karn Sharma, who played the role of an all-rounder and captain as well. The newly appointed leader, Anureet Singh, has big boots to fill.
