TogglePromising youngster Arjun Tendulkar has gathered a lot of unwanted attention. This time though, he is grabbing the headlines for all the right reasons.
Arjun, the all-rounder bagged his first wicket of the game in just his second over. Pertinently, Indian U-19 team is playing the first Youth Test at Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground (NCG) in Colombo.
Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun bagged the wicket of Kamil Mishara. A first-class cricketer who plays for Panadura Sports Club (PSC) in the domestic circuit.
The India U19 side will play two Youth Test fixtures. This is Arjun’s maiden outing with the India U-19 side.
Earlier, team’s bowling coach Sanath Kumar reiterated that junior Arjun Tendulkar won’t get any special treatment and will be treated in the same way as his teammates.
For the coach, all are same:
“I don’t know about that as it’s not my area of concern but as a coach, all the boys are equal for me. For me, Arjun is no different from other kids. My job is to bring the best out of each and every one of them.” PTI quoted the coach.
Kumar has been a rock-solid coach for lesser-known states. Under his supervision, Assam reached the semi-finals of the Ranji Trophy. He also saw Andhra reach semis in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
“I worked as a coach with Indian women’s team in 2008 during their tour of England. This time I am contracted to work till the end of the U-19 Asia Cup in Bangladesh in October,” Kumar added.
When asked about the preparations for the series as he will be working with young guns, Kumar expressed satisfaction.
“Look, in a short span of time, you can’t really work a lot on the technical aspect as they will be playing matches. I would like to focus more on the strategic part. Would like to prepare the boys for match situations with simulations,” he concluded.
