There is no doubt about the fact that Arjun Tendulkar knows the pressures of having a famous surname. However his father Sachin Tendulkar wants his young and promising son to find reasons to wake up every morning and chase his dreams irrespective of the circumstances which might halter his progress.
A left-arm fast bowling all-rounder, Arjun appeared for India U-19 in a couple of Test matches last year. His career has been followed very closely especially due to the fact that he is the son of famous father Sachin Tendulkar. The 2nd edition of the Mumbai T20 League is approaching and it will be the first senior appearance for the Junior Tendulkar. The Senior Tendulkar knows very well that his son’s performance would be watched by all and sundry.
Sachin Tendulkar feels there is no guarantee in sport
When asked if T20 cricket is a good way for Arjun to start his senior career, Tendulkar conceded that nothing is guaranteed in sport and one needs to grab the opportunities in whatever way it comes. Arjun needs to enjoy his game like his father and success will follow. However, Sachin Tendulkar opposed answering any question regarding his son’s cricketing journey.
“In sports, nothing is guaranteed so whatever opportunities you are provided, you need to go out there and give your best and make the most of it,” Tendulkar Senior, who has refrained from commenting on his son’s journey, told PTI in an interview.
“This is one platform that I feel people will be following you, your performances and if you are doing well, you will be on top of the world,” he added.
However, Senior Tendulkar feels that there is always a tomorrow and even if his son doesn’t perform upto mark in the tournament he can come back stronger in the future tournaments. When you have a father like Sachin Tendulkar you just need to follow his guidance.
“As long as he continues to be passionate about cricket and in love with the game, that’s what matters to me. There are going to be highs and lows and he should find reasons to wake up in the morning and chase his dreams. His dream is to play cricket and do something special,” Tendulkar said.
Late Ramesh Tendulkar, father of Sachin Tendulkar who was a renowned Marathi poet had a huge impact on Sachin Tendulkar and the way he was brought up. Sachin Tendulkar recalled what his father once told him and stated that he would definitely like to make his son a better human being than a player.
Arjun Tendulkar should seize any opportunities which come his way says, Sachin Tendulkar
“My father once told me:’You know as long as you don’t find shortcuts and prepare yourself before any match, then results will follow’. I will ask him (Arjun) to do that. Don’t worry about anything else.
“Just go out there and do what you are good at. If he is a good team man and good human being above all, that will be much more important to me,” said the veteran of 200 Tests. Tendulkar feels that T20 cricket in Mumbai will give the youngsters a chance to knock on the IPL doors
“As far as youngsters are concerned, there are three boys, who did well in this event last year and have now got IPL teams. They are Shubham Ranjane, Shivam Dubey and Sushant Singh. So this provides a great platform to do something special and get into an IPL franchise.
“If you fit into their scheme of things, they will take you. Even if not, at least you have found a way to knock their doors,” he said. However, Tendulkar said that there is no shortcut to success and one needs to perform in whatever formats and opportunities he is presented.
“It can’t be one-way traffic. You have got to respect the sport and you will find that it takes care of you. The journey has to start from the heart and if you are passionate about cricket, it really doesn’t matter. That’s what I followed for a number of years,” he said. Arjun Tendulkar will look to come good in his first senior appearance and make a claim in the sub-junior and A level Indian teams.
