Looks like Armaan Jaffer is well on his way to replicating the feats of his famous uncle and former India opener Wasim Jaffer. The youngster is once again grabbing the headlines for all the right reasons.
In his latest batting exploit, Armaan Jaffer scored an unbeaten triple century for Mumbai Under-23 against Saurashtra in the CK Nayudu Trophy. Jaffer scored an unbeaten 300 from 367 deliveries in the zonal tournament. His stunning knock contained 26 boundaries and 10 sixes at the Wankhede Stadium.
Armaan came out to bat when his side was reeling at 12 for 2. But Armaan showed remarkable maturity to not only pull his side out of trouble but also put Mumbai in a dominating position. He shared a mammoth 281-run stand with opener Rudra Dhanday, who scored 166 off 216 balls.
Mumbai declared their innings as soon as Jaffer reached his triple century.
Armaan first grabbed the headlines with his exploits in school cricket. He broke schools cricket record by scoring 498 for Rizvi Springfield School against IES Raja Shivaji School in the Giles Shield tournament at Cross Maidan in 2010. He soon grabbed the eyeballs again after slamming three consecutive double hundreds.
In December 2015, he was named in 15 man squad for 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh. In February 2016, he was added to Kings XI Punjab squad for INR 10 lakh. He made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy on 6 October 2016. He, however, is yet to make a mark in the Ranji Trophy. So far, the youngster has played 3 first-class games but has managed just 44 runs.
