“As it is India’s full-strength team, the challenge is even greater” : Mashrafe Mortaza
Bangladesh’s ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has expressed happiness over BCCI’s decision to send a full-strength Indian team for their tour scheduled to take place against them next month.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the team for the Bangladesh tour on May 20 and none of the senior players were rested from both the Tests and the ODIs. Ravindra Jadeja was the notable exclusion from the Test side that played Australia last year while Mohammad Shami was not considered for selection because of a surgery on his right-knee. Mortaza, who might play his last Test against India, said that he was hoping they come with their strongest team and now is happy that his wish has been fulfilled.
“Everyone had been hoping for their best team. We knew any India team would be a challenge. As it’s their full team, the challenge is even greater.
“The ODI squad is quite identical to the World Cup’s. Only (Mohammad) Shami isn’t there due to injury. Their batting is undoubtedly the world’s No.1. It will be a huge challenge for our bowlers.”
Mortaza also said that the Bangladesh team is ready to face the tough challenge from the Men in Blue and expects his team to ride on the confidence that they gained from thrashing Pakistan in ODIs last month.
“There is always an extra pressure if the full team doesn’t come. At least the question won’t be asked this time. We will have the motivation to play well. They played in the World Cup semi-finals – it is their best team. The job is very difficult for us,” he concluded.
