Ashes 2017/18: Barmy Army Targets David Warner’s Wife In Cheeky Jingle

While the players were battling it out on the first day of the Ashes-opener at the Gabba, England’s famous Barmy Army also made its presence felt with a cheeky song for Australia’s vice-captain David Warner.

The famous group, which accompanies the team to its overseas tour, has never shied away from getting under the skin of the opposition players and are doing their best to wind up the Australian players in the ongoing series which got underway on Thursday (November 23) at Brisbane.

Their first target was Warner as they made a single, referring to the southpaw’s infamous bar brawl with Joe Root when he was dropped from the team after punching the current England skipper. The chant also refers to his alleged fling with his wife, Candice who was then reportedly engaged to rugby player Sonny Bill Williams in 2008. Warner married Candice a couple of years ago.

The chant is: “Davie Warner is over the hill

Came second to Sonny Bill

He’ll only pick a fight with men in a wig

When he opens his gob

We think he’s a knooooob

With Root our captain we’ll take the urn home.”

Honours even after the first day:

Meanwhile, Australia and England shared the honours on the first day of the game. Mitchell Starc gave the hosts a flying start by dismissing Alastair Cook for only two, but Mark Stoneman and James Vince scored fine fifties to put England in a strong position. However, just when it looked the visitors would walk away with the honours, Australia evened it by taking three wickets. England finished the day on 196 for 4.
