ECB has revealed that Ben Stokes will not travel to Australia with the rest of the team for the Ashes. Stokes was arrested by the police next day but was released and is still under investigation for the incident and now will not travel to Australia with the team.

ECB has named Steve Finn in the squad. England will travel to Australia on 28th October with the first to begin on 23rd November at Gabba in Brisbane. England’s Board has not yet confirmed that Ben Stokes will participate in the series or has he been ruled out entirely. However, Stokes has retained his central contract with the ECB for 2017-18 and will be recalled if the police have taken no further action.

Andrew Strauss said:

“With the Ashes just around the corner, it’s important to give the players, the coaching staff and supporters some clarity around a complex situation, this decision will help us in the weeks ahead and give every player and the whole England set-up the best chance to focus on the challenge ahead in Australia.”

“We have spoken to Ben and assured him that our decision in no way prejudges the outcome of the ongoing Police investigation or Cricket Discipline Commission process, as can be seen by the award of Central Contracts.”

He also spoke about Finn’s selection in the squad, he said:

“Steven is a high-quality cricketer, with considerable experience of both international cricket and Australian conditions, the selectors believe he will add to the range of options and the squad will be further supported by the arrival of the Lions in Australia in November.”

Mark Wood lost his Central contract following another injury-laden summer as he struggled to with three ankle injuries in the year. Wood will be paid as a One Day specialist for the next 12 months.
