Former England captain Kevin Pietersen feels the ex-skipper Alastair Cook have to shine exceptionally well with the bat so that the English team can compete against the magnificent bowling attack that Australia possesses.
The pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Jose Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins have been in tremendous form in the opening games of the JLT Sheffield Shield. The left-handed Starc who will lead the attack entered into the recent books by picking two hat-tricks in two innings of the same match.
Pietersen earlier commented that the Aussies would absolutely hammer this England side. He also mentioned that England has no specific batsman except for the top three positions.
Now, Pietersen gave a bit of advice to his former teammate Cook from his social media account Twitter. Replying to tweet which mentioned that Cook had scored 800 runs in Ashes series not long ago, Pietersen took a dig at Cook saying he still average in and around 30 with that one brilliant series.
He further added Cook needs to double his performance so that England can compete in the upcoming Ashes. He tweeted,
“Cook averages only around 30 in Ashes cricket, even with that one off brilliant series! He needs to average twice that this series for ENG to compete!”

The 37-year-old Pietersen had represented England in 104 Test matches scoring 8181 runs with a healthy average of 47.28. He has the highest score of 227 runs in the 2010 Ashes down under in Adelaide.
