Ponting went with Mark’s brother Steve Waugh for the important number five position. Waugh who was one of the most successful Aussie captains has won Ashes eight times as a captain. Ponting admitted it’s hard to find a better batsman than Steve for number five or six spots.
With an average more than 60, Steve had hit ten hundred and 13 half-centuries including the one with one leg at the Oval. Ponting further stated its tough to go past Steve, as he brings in a lot of experience to the squad.
