Ashes 2019: England Reveal Their Playing XI, Make Two Changes

England has revealed the playing XI for the final and fifth Ashes Test match. The hosts’ have made two changes to their final XI with Sam Curran and Chris Woakes coming into the side. The dual will replace struggling batsman Jason Roy and bowler Craig Overton. Furthermore, the team’s vice-captain Ben Stokes will only play as a specialist batsman due to shoulder injury.

Meanwhile, Jason Roy has had a horrid Ashes series. The right-hander who has made a name for himself in the white-ball format was not able to adjust his game to the red ball version. The talismanic batsman could only manage 110 runs at a paltry average of 13.75 in the eight innings of the series. Thus, England captain Joe Root can open the innings with Joe Denly.

Australia has already retained the Ashes.

On the other hand, Craig Overton was drafted into the playing XI in the previous Test match. Overton had failed to impress with the ball as he could scalp two wickets in the first innings and went wicketless in the second. However, Overton did show the resistance with the bat in the second innings when he batted for more than three hours but could not save the Test match.

Sam Curran was the adjudged the Man of the series against India as the young prodigy had shined with both bat as well as the ball.

On the other hand, Australia has brought Mitchell Marsh in place of Travis Head in the 12-man squad for the final Test.
