During the first Test of the Ashes 2019 at Edgbaston (Birmingham), James Anderson faced the calf injury. On the very first day of the Ashes 2019, Anderson bowled four overs (4-3-1-0) before walking off the field due to the injury. Though he batted both the innings of that game, he didn’t return to bowl again.

Due to that injury, England’s leading Test wicket-taker Anderson missed the next two matches at Lord’s (London) and Headingley (Leeds). The selectors and team management were hoping to get fit James Anderson before the fourth Test of this series. Old Trafford (Manchester) will host the fourth Test of Ashes 2019 from 4th September.
James Anderson once again faced calf injury during the recent friendly game
After recovering from the injury, James Anderson recently featured for Lancashire’s second XI against Durham in the four-day friendly match. On last Thursday (29th August), when he was bowling ninth over of the day, Anderson felt pain in his right calf. Later, the ECB has confirmed that Anderson will be unavailable for the remainder of Ashes 2019. During the latest friendly game, Anderson bowled 20 overs on Tuesday (27th August).
Meanwhile, the selectors have added the pacer Craig Overton in the England squad for the forthcoming Manchester Test. While James Anderson will miss the rest of the Ashes 2019, Overton is covering this place for the fourth Test.

The 25-year-old right-arm pacer Craig Overton has played three Tests since his debut in December 2017. He has taken a total of seven wickets in Test career. Since the Auckland Test in March 2018, it is the first time when Overton has received the Test call-up.

Apart from these, the selectors have maintained the same squad for the upcoming Test match.
Before the fourth Test of Ashes 2019, both England and Australia have won once each. Australia won the opening Test of this series by 251 runs. The rain-interrupted second Test at Lord’s had the thrilling draw result. However, England won the third Test at Headingley by just one wicket, thanks to Ben Stokes‘ remarkable match-winning batting performance.
