The former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir lambasts the Australian team over their decision on the wicket of the English wicket-keeper calling them “sledgers”. Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal in the second innings was not well received by many cricketing fans and experts as they feel the dismissal is against the spirit of cricket.
The last recognized batting pair Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow was looking to take the game deep on the final day of the highly anticipated second test in Lord’s just before the English wicket-keeper stepped out of the crease after the final ball over before the ball is dead, as Alex Carey threw the ball back on to the stumps to inflict a runout.
Indian World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir didn’t mince a choice of words to criticize the Australian over their actions on the field to dismiss Jonny Bairstow, as he called the Australians “Sledgers” and questioned whether the spirit of the game logic applies only to the Indians.
“Hey sledgers….does spirit of the game logic apply to u or is it just for Indians?” Gautam Gambhir tweeted.
Gautam Gambhir was known for his tremendous energy on the field, as he plays the games with a lot of aggression during his playing days and was not happy with Australians over their behaviour on the game.
Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg was also not impressed by the Australian tactics to implement the run out as the English wicket-keeper was not looking for runs, as he just walked down to have a chat with his skipper at the end of the over.
“Bairstow wicket, Not Out. Spirit of cricket pushed to the boundary. Not attempting a run, end of over, scratched crease then walked for the regulation BS chat between overs between batsman,” Brad Hogg tweeted.
Australian pacer Mitchell Starc believes that Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal in the 2nd innings was out as his catch of Ben Duckett was not out. England team and fans were not happy with the Australian over the dismissal which led to a few heated moments on and off the field. Ben Stokes-led side is trailing the series 2-0 after losing a close encounter on Lord’s.
