Former England Captain Nasser Hussain feels that veteran Australian opener David Warner can fulfil his dream of retiring after the Sydney test next year if he manages to get a hundred on the final day of the Ashes series to give Australia a cracking finish to the England tour.

On the rain-interpreted Day of the fifth test, Australian openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja managed to lead Australia to an unbeaten 135-run partnership. The left-handed opener remains unbeaten on 58* at the end of Day 4 play as he will look to end his final Ashes series high with a resounding century on the final to help Australia win the away series after 2001.

Speaking on Sky Sports Cricket, cricketer-turned-commentator Nasser Hussain believes David Warner can fulfil his wish to retire in front of his home crowd if he manages to get a century on the final day after being well-set in the middle alongside Usman Khawaja.

“Warner knows that if he gets a hundred here he will get his wish and bow out in Sydney next year,” Nasser Hussain said.

The Australian opener had mixed series so far in England, as he failed to capitalize on the good starts to the innings but has scored only 225 runs for Australia in nine innings just before this final innings against England.

Both David Warner And Usman Khawaja Have Played Excellently – Nasser Hussain

Nasser Hussain feels that it will be another opportunity missed by David Warner if he fails on the final day of the game after being well set in the middle and hailed the Australian openers for playing well in the final innings of the game.

“If he gets out just after lunch after another start and another missed opportunity [he might not]. Both he and Khawaja have played excellently. Khawaja has looked busy with his batting but also with his running between the wickets, which is what Warner likes,” Nasser Hussain added.

The Australian team has done exceedingly well on England soil so far, as they showed a lot of composure to play the high-octane games in England despite David Warner’s inconsistent form in the ongoing test series and the Baggy Green will look to seal the series in Oval after their brilliance performance of the fourth day of the game.

Pat Cummins would look to achieve a 3-1 triumph while even a draw would ensure Australia’s first series victory in England for 22 years.
