Star Australian pacer Mitchell Starc has revealed that he has got no indication to play the much anticipated 2nd test of the Ashes series in the Lord’s after being dropped from the 1st test in favour of Josh Hazelwood. Earlier, the Australian head coach Andrew McDonald hinted to they might play the Left-arm pacer in the playing 11 in the green top Lord’s test.
In the 2019 Ashes in England, the 33-year-old pacer played only one Test in the entire series. Australia made a tough decision going into the 1st game series as they preferred to go with Boland and Hazlewood in place of Mitchell Starc, who is known for his reverse swing in the later part of the match.
Speaking to the media ahead of the 2nd test match, Mitchell Starc said that he is used to “being out” of the squad in England just like the 2019 series, and added that the team has got a brilliant set of fast bowlers in the squad for the Ashes including a couple of Australian pacers doing well in county cricket.
“I’m used to it now coming to England, It’s a squad mentality, much the same as last time. We’ve got a great set of bowlers not just in this squad but a couple of other guys playing county cricket,” Starc said.
The 33-year-old feels that the schedule is a pretty tight one, as they will play five-match series in seven weeks’ and believes that it requires a lot of hard work to play the games in the short schedule and revealed that the team has taken the approach to rotate their players throughout the series and said that the team has not got any indication to play the 2nd game in the Lord’s.
“It’s a very, very short Ashes crammed into the space of seven weeks. We knew it was going to be hard work for anyone to play all the games. We’ve all taken that approach and will for the rest of the Test matches I haven’t gotten any indication either way, so your guess is as good as mine until the selectors decide,” Mitchell Starc maintained.
Mitchell Starc is expected to get a chance at some point in the five-Test series. It will be interesting to whether Australia disturbs their winning combination going into the 2nd match of the Ashes series.
We’ll Play On What We’re Given In A Couple Of Days – Mitchell Starc
Mitchel Starc expects the Lord’s pitch to be different from that of Edgbaston wicket which offered nothing to the bowlers throughout the match and reckons that the Australia team will be ready to play any kind of wicket in the historic Lord’s.
“Probably not a surprise after some of the comments from last week and the nature of that (Edgbaston) wicket. We’ll play on what we’re given in a couple of days,” Mitchell Starc added.
Australia is 1-0 up in the five-Test series as they won the first match in Edgbaston by 2 wickets, they will look to extend the lead in the 2nd test of the Ashes series, when they take on England On June 28 in Lord’s test.
