Former England skipper Michael Vaughan is surprised by the approach of the Australian batter on the Day 2 of the fifth and final test of the high-octane Ashes series despite retaining the urn. Pat Cummins-led side was more defensive in their approach to the game, as the batters failed to put pressure on the England bowlers in the 1st innings.
Australian batter was not proactive in their batting in the 1st innings of the game, as none of the batters played with a positive approach on the game, as English bowlers bowled with a lot of discipline on the field, as none of the English bowlers conceded over three runs in their bowling innings on Day 2.
Speaking on a BBC test match Special, Michael Vaughan questioned Australia’s batting approach in the 1st innings stating that he has never seen Australia play with such fear in a game as they are usually aggressive in their approach taking the game forward and reckons that this worst that he has seen Australian batting in a long time as they never play like in any game.
“They are taking home the urn, but I’ve never seen Australia play with so much fear, They are usually so aggressive and try to take the game forward. They have just sat in to bat a long period without remembering you have to put a bit of pressure on the bowlers.
“This morning I thought it was the worst I’ve ever seen Australia bat in my time watching them. They never play like that,” Michael Vaughan said.
Australia batted over 103 overs to score 296 runs in the 1st innings, as the batters didn’t try to take on the English bowlers whereas England were aggressive in their batting in the 1st innings as the Ben Stokes-led side scored 283 runs in 54 overs.
I’m Not Suggesting For A Minute We Try To Match Bazball, But…-Mark Taylor
Former Australian skipper Mark Taylor hailed the England bowlers for their impressive bowling on the 1st innings to bring their team back into the game and wanted the Australian team to be more proactive in scoring runs as they were more reserved in the batting.
“No doubt England bowled well, but you have to tell the opposition you are after them as much as they are after you, I’m not suggesting for a minute we try to match Bazball, but be a bit more proactive,” Mark Taylor added.
England pacers bowled exceedingly well in the 1st innings of the final test of the Ashes series as everyone chipped in to pick up crucial wickets in the middle overs and their batters will look to put on a fine show on the Day 3 of the game to give them a real chance to draw the Ashes in their home soil.
