England pacer Ollie Robinson sounded confident of England giving it all to win the final game against Australia starting on Thursday to draw the series on their home soil. The 29-year-old will not be part of England’s playing 11 for the 5th test but trusts his team to do well against the arch-rivals Australia in the final game.
England are 1-2 behind in the series as they lost a golden chance to draw the series level after the fifth day of the fourth Test in Manchester was completely washed out. Australia has retained the Ashes as a result of the fourth test but needs a draw or win in the final test to win a Test series on England soil after 22 years.
In his column for Wisden, Ollie Robinson is confident of his team giving their 100% to win the game against Australia in the final test as they would love to put up a dominating show against the Baggy Greens in the Oval test and reckons that England will try to stop Australia win a series in their backyards after 2001 and ruined the fact of missing out the victory in the fourth test after a producing a dominating performance in the first three days in Manchester.
“The Oval’s massive. We’ve got to throw everything at winning this game. If we can end the summer dominating the Aussies at The Oval and putting on a show, putting bums on seats, that’s where we want to be, and that’s what we’re going to try to do. Australia hasn’t won a series in England since 2001, and we don’t want to let that record go this week.”
“For the series and cricket, it was a shame that Manchester got ruined, If it had been 2-2 it would have been the perfect series, whoever comes out on top at the Kia Oval. The frustrating thing about Manchester was that for three days it came off, and we played exactly how we’ve talked about wanting to,” Ollie Robinson wrote.
The rain became a defining moment in the series in England, as the Australian team was very lucky to have the game washed due to the rain in England as the away team is completely outplayed in the first three days of the crucial game in England.
We’re About The Imprint That We’re Trying To Leave On Cricket – Ollie Robinson
Ollie Robinson wrote about the mood in the dressing room after the fourth test, where he revealed that most of the players were flat with the results after playing a good series so far and said that their Skipper motivated them after the game, as one series won’t define them as a player as they want to leave a legacy behind playing the game.
“The lads were flat that evening. We felt that we’d had a pretty good series and made most of the Test matches the games that they were. But Stokesy made a very good speech afterwards, saying that this Ashes series won’t define us as players, that we’re about the imprint that we’re trying to leave on cricket.” Ollie Robinson added.
The England seamer has picked up ten wickets in the series so far in three games. The 29-year-old was not his usual best in this series as he could not make an impact performance for his team in the series and suffered an injury during the third test in Headingley.
