Ashish Kapoor, the former Indian cricketer, has made his comeback in the junior selection panel on Tuesday (April 3).

The former Test cricketer Ashish has replaced prolific Venkatesh Prasad in the committee, comprising of Gyanendra Pandey and Rakesh Parikh.

“I wish him all the very best for this endeavour. I am sure he has a lot to offer when it comes to being a part of the junior selection committee with his varied expertise and experience in the game. India have a rich talent pool and it is important to identify the talent at a young age and nurture them,” BCCI Acting President CK Khanna said in a release.

Ashish was removed from the same selection panel owing to Lodha recommendations.

However, the decision to remove him came as a surprise as he has featured in both Test and ODI format. Now, although, he has made his comeback to the panel.

Venkatesh Pradesh, the former chairman of selection, resigned from his post last month (March) to avoid Conflict of Interest.

The former Indian bowler Prasad joined Kings XI Punjab as bowling coach recently. He would not have been allowed to take up the post had he been associated with BCCI. He resigned from the job so as to be part of IPL.

Though, another reason for him quitting the job would have been that BCCI did not reward the junior selection panel despite the team winning the World Cup.

The selection panel of India men’s team and women’s team was rewarded for team’s performance in ICC Champions Trophy and World Cup 2017, respectively.

Although, the team finished second best on both the occasions, as Ashish Kapoor has plenty on an offer.

India U19 won the trophy after a period of six years by defeating Australia comfortably in New Zealand.

Meanwhile, the job for the junior panel will start soon.

India U19 won the junior World Cup for the fourth time

India U19 team is set to face Sri Lanka in the month of July. Later, India will also host Nepal and Afghanistan.

The team will have new boys and a new captain as well.

Despite a couple of boys being eligible to play for India U19 again, no player will be able to make a place as BCCI only allows a player to play one junior World Cup.
