Australia all-rounder Ashton Turner was charged by the national body Cricket Australia (CA) for showing dissent at the on-field umpire’s decision during the ongoing JLT Sheffield Shield competition.
The 24-year-old Turner is representing his state-side in the six-team tournament when he breached the CA Code of Conduct while featuring in the first-round of a four-day competition.
The incident took place when Turner was featuring in a game against Tasmania at WACA in Perth on October 28.
However, according to the Cricket Australia’s release, Turner breached the 2.1.3 Article of the Board’s Code of Conduct which is subsequently termed as the Level One offence as per the constitution.
Before being reported by the on-field umpire, Turner was at the non-striker’s end when a batsman was adjudged out by the umpire which didn’t sit well with the player who has had featured in three Twenty20 Internationals for Australia.
The youngster in the form of Turner was charged by the Match Referee Steve Bernard after umpires briefed him further about the dissent during the second innings of Western Australia.
However, Turned accepted the fact by crossing the line which eventually forced CA to put an end to the hearing after advising the professional cricketer about the sanction.
Pertinently, the release from the Board did not mention any fine regarding the match fee after Turner accepted the on-field offence.
The match was slated between October 26 and October 29 respectively which saw hosts registering the convincing win over George Bailey-led side Tasmania by 301 runs.
The off-spinner Turner is well recognized in the Australia’s domestic fold, as he bats at number six.
In the recently-concluded fixture, Turner in the day and night fixture scored 32 off 62 balls, as he smashed four boundaries in the first innings after Tasmania decided to bowl first.
In the second innings, under the leadership of Mitchell Marsh, Turner posted run-a-ball 18 and much to the surprise he did not bowl.
The Western Australia side which won the recently concluded JLT One-day Cup posted 323 and 272 for nine in both the innings, as Tasmania was bundled out for 231 before chasing down the target of 365.
In second innings, Tasmania was strangulated on 63 in 23.1 overs which saw Nathan Coulter-Nile, and Jackson Simon Mackin bagged three wickets each, as Jhye Richardson and Matthew Kelly, who was on his first-class debut claimed wicket apiece.
After making his international debut against Sri Lanka in February at Melbourne, Turner has three wickets to his name with the bowling average of 14.
