Indian off-spinner R. Ashwin has climbed one place in Test rankings and has now become the top-ranked bowler in ICC Test ranking. Ashwin eclipsed the South African bowler Dale Steyn in the list thus becoming the top ranked bowler in the rankings.

With 27 wickets in the recently concluded Test series, Ashwin bagged oodles of points and have now touched 900 points, 22 points ahead of Dale Steyn, the second-ranked bowler.

The off-spinner ended the final Test match with figures of 13/140. He toppled the Kiwis batting line up in the final Test achieving his best career figures.  At one stage it looked like Kiwis will stretch the match to final day but then Ashwin came up with a spectacular performance in the final session taking 7 wickets. The last wicket of Trent Boult and BJ Watling, at one stage, was becoming a headache for Indian bowlers and then again Ashwin came up with a wicket to pack the bag of Kiwis.

With 13 wickets in the game and 27 wickets in the series, Ashwin surged to the top spot in the ICC ranking with crucial 900 points in his account.

Ajinkya Rahne, who scored 188 in the first innings of the final Test also jumped 2 places and has climbed to the sixth spot from the eighth spot. The double centurion Virat Kohli has also been benefitted as he has climbed four places climbing to 16th spot whereas Chetshwar Pujara has climbed one stair now being in 14th place in the rankings.

Currently, Steve smith is at the top of the Test rankings 906 points whereas the England captain Joe root is in the second spot with 878 points. Hashim Amla follows them and is in the third spot with 847 points in his kitty.
