Asia Cup 2018: Afghanistan Announces 17-man Squad for the Tournament
Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced the 17-man squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2018. In fact, Afghanistan Board has named three uncapped players in their Asia Cup squad.
Sayed Sherzad, Munir Ahmad, and Wafadar are the three players who haven’t played for Afghanistan yet in the 50-overs format, have received their call-up.
Meanwhile, Sayed Sherzad and Wafadar have featured in Test and T20I side for the Afghan team. However, Munir Ahmad is yet to represent the country in any form of the game.
Wafadar, the 18-year old prodigy had impressed in his maiden appearance in the red ball version against India. Meanwhile, Sayed Sherzad has represented in three T20Is.
In fact, team’s strength will be in their trio battery of spinners – Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
Meanwhile, Dawlat Zadran could not make the cut into the team. The fast bowler could not make his place in the playing XI against Ireland in the recently concluded series. Afghan team went on to win the ODI series 2-1 after claiming the T20I series 2-0.
Asia Cup 2018 will begin from 15 September in the UAE. The final of the tournament will take place in Dubai on 30th September.
Afghanistan will begin their Asia Cup campaign when they will lock horns against Sri Lanka on September 17. Bangladesh is the third side in the Group B.
On the other hand, India and Pakistan constitute the Group A of the tourney whereas the sixth will be decided by the qualifiers.
