Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer, Deepak Chahar will join the India squad as a cover for injured Hardik Pandya for the remainder of the Asia Cup.

Meanwhile, Pandya sustained a hip injury during the marquee clash against Pakistan. He went down on the ground while continuing his followthrough and had to go off on a stretcher.

However, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did give an update on him, but it is yet to confirm whether Hardik Pandya will be available for India’s next game against Bangladesh.

Deepak Chahar, meanwhile, has been in good form since the Indian Premier League. As a result, he made his T20I debut in the third fixture against England. However, he didn’t have a good game as he returned with one for 43 in his full quota.

Chahar was part of the India A squad that toured England where he picked ten wickets in four games. He replaced injured Jasprit Bumrah in the England series for the T20Is. Furthermore, he was also a part of the India A squad in the quadrangular series.

Rajasthan, however, will miss out on the services of their prime pacer in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Should Pandya fail to recover well in time, Chahar might be handed a debut ODI cap straightaway against Bangladesh. India will face Bangladesh (September 21), Pakistan (September 23) and Afghanistan (September 25) in their top four ties.

On Wednesday, the Rohit Sharma-led team registered an emphatic win over Pakistan in a one-sided affair as they chased down a target of 163 in mere 29 overs.
