Rohit Sharma, who will lead India in its first-ever major tournament at the Asia Cup 2018 admitted of being nervous on the eve of the game against Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, the selectors have decided to rest the regular skipper Virat Kohli to manage his workload. In the meantime, Sharma will lead the side while Shikhar Dhawan will be his deputy.
However, Rohit Sharma had led India before in the Nidahas Trophy earlier this year in Sri Lanka. India lifted the title beating Bangladesh in the finals of the tournament. Despite that, there are some nerves. Moreover, he also seemed excited as he is looking forward to the Asia Cup.

“Captaincy is a big responsibility,” he told reporters. “I’ve done it before in a series, but this is a very big tournament for me. I’m quite excited. A bit nervous, obviously, but very excited. It’s an important tournament, and I’ve played with these boys quite a bit, so we understand each other. I’m looking forward to it,” Sharma added.
India have some concerns to address, though. The middle-order isn’t settled – all of Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, Suresh Raina, and KL Rahul – have been tried out in recent times, and India are yet to settle on the best options.

Speaking on Rayudu and Kedar, Rohit Sharma noted that they are essential members of the team. He also seemed happy with the return of the senior cricketers.
“Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav are important members of the team. Them making a comeback is good for the team. It is important for us that they perform well. I am happy that they are back,” Rohit Sharma concluded.
