The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) included young fast bowler from Rajasthan, Khaleel Ahmed in the 16-member India squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2018.
Meanwhile, Khaleel has played only two first-class games and represented Sunrisers Hyderabad on one IPL game. It will be a welcome opportunity for the youngster, who will be keen to make the most of it.
Speaking of the development, chief of selector MSK Prasad admitted there are few spots open for the World Cup. Thus they are looking at the young left-arm seamer.
“Two to three slots are yet to be sealed before we finalise a squad for the World Cup and among those slots, one is that of a seamer. We are looking at a left-arm option in Khaleel,” Prasad said after the announcing the team.
Khaleel Ahmed, however, noted that he still can’t believe what has happened. He also expressed that it is something he always wanted to do in life.
“I still can’t believe that I have made it to the Indian team. That too for the Asia Cup! It is a big moment for me. Ever since I played cricket, I have been aggressive and have always wanted to do something in life. It feels great to be rewarded,” Khaleel told Sportstar.
Khaleel Ahmed dreams to surpass Zaheer Khan’s record
Even before donning the India cap, Khaleel dreams of surpassing Zaheer’s wickets in international cricket. Khaleel was a teammate of Zaheer Khan in Delhi Daredevils in 2016 and 2017.
“I know I am sounding kiddish, but that’s my aim and that’s my way of showing tribute to my mentor,” Khaleel said.
This will be a huge opportunity for Khaleel Ahmed, who will look to present his case in the Asia Cup 2018.
