Asia Cup 2018 is Slated to be Held at the United Arab Emirates
After weeks of speculations, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) decided the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the hosts for the upcoming Asia Cup, this year.
India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are scheduled to take part in the event. The last time the event took place was in Bangladesh, predecessing the World Twenty20 of 2016.
However, the tournament was the 20-over version of the Championship which India won by defeating hosts Bangladesh.
Moreover, the tournament is high-likely going to be held between September 13 and 28. Overall, it is going to be the 14th edition.
Earlier, the competition was originally scheduled to be held in India.
“The ACC deliberated on the matter and decided that this was the best way forward,” PCB chairman Najam Sethi told ESPNcricinfo. Sethi is also serving as the chairman for ACC
On the other side, Sri Lanka and Pakistan will co-host Emerging Teams’ Asia Cup. The competition is further deferred to December which has been scheduled for April.
The 50-over version of Asia Cup last took place in Bangladesh again which saw Sri Lanka emerge victorious after defeating Pakistan in the finals.
This was also the same year when the Lankans clinched the World T20 of 2014 held in India.
The other interesting development from the conference is that Pakistan and Sri Lanka were given the responsibility to host the Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
Also, in 2019, Pakistan is scheduled to host the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Abdul Gaffar from the Dawn News posted about the recent developments in Asian Cricket.
“Decision from Asian Cricket Council meeting: Asia Cup in UAE. Emerging Cup in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. AGM in Pakistan” tweeted Abdul Gaffar.
Here’s the post:
It is now a decade since Pakistan hosted the prestigious Asia Cup. The last time Pakistan hosted the Championship was back in 2008.
The high scoring tournament saw Sri Lanka, yet again, clinching the trophy, by defeating the Indians in the grand finale of the tournament.
