The upcoming edition of the Asia Cup 2018 at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is all set to come with a new surprise, as it will include ‘super over’ for the first time.
The committee has decided to introduce a tie-breaking super over from this edition. As a result, the teams will not have to share the Asia Cup trophy from this year onwards.
A Super Over also called a one-over eliminator in the event of a match being tie, is a tie-breaking method, initially used in T-20 formats. It consists only one over (six balls) and two wickets for each team.
According to the Playing Conditions released to all participating teams in the Asia Cup, which kick off on Saturday, the official result of the match would be a tie. But within the context of the tournament the winning team of the “Super Over” will be the winner of the game. Furthermore, the victory will be equivalent of one in a regular match.

However, runs scored in super overs do not count towards a player’s statistical record.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, have started on high banking on veteran seamer Lasith Malinga. Maling struck twice at the start of the game to script a historic comeback. He removed Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das for a duck to provide Sri Lanka, an upper hand.
On the other hand, veteran opener Tamim Iqbal suffered an injury while playing a pull shot of Suranga Lakmal. The bouncer struck him on his wrists as Tamim left the field with pain.
Bangladesh have an uphill task at hand and will have to stitch long partnership to come out of this.
