Star Bangladesh fast bowler Ebadot Hossain has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 tournament after suffering a knee injury during the recently concluded series against Afghanistan.
Bangladesh has been grouped with Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in Group B of the Asia Cup tournament and will begin with a match against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on August 31. They will then face Afghanistan in Lahore on September 3.
Now BCB Chief Sports Physician Dr. Debashis Chowdhury has revealed that Ebadot suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during the recently concluded series against Afghanistan and will not be available for the Asia Cup 2023 tournament.
Ebadot Hossain was ruled medically ineligible to participate in the Asia Cup 2023 after the medical experts examined his injuries. Since the ICC World Cup 2023 is only around the horizon and the pacer needs at least six weeks to fully recover, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided against playing him.
“Ebadot had undergone six weeks of rehab following the injury. We have had multiple MRIs done during this time and the reports suggest that his ACL is still a concern and requires further management. Therefore, he misses out on the Asia Cup.
Considering the importance of the Bangladesh team’s next major event, which is the ICC World Cup in October, the BCB is committed to exploring every safe medical option available for getting Ebadot back to full fitness and playing as early as possible, including consultation and treatment overseas,” Dr Chowdhury told Daily Star.
