Babar Azam’s father has revealed the reason behind the Pakistan skipper playing the Lanka Premier League after rejecting the lucrative offer from Global T20 Canada. The 28-year-old is regarded as one of the greatest batters from Pakistan to play in World Cricket.
Babar Azam will have a huge test in his captaincy skills as they will play Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 later this year, as his gameplay and captaincy will be crucial for their team in the ICC events later this year in India.
Speaking to the media, Babar Azam’s father revealed that his son had the same offer from the Global T20 leagues which offered him the same amount of money as the Lanka Premier League, where he has to play for 10 days lesser than that of Sri Lanka but he suggested him to play the LPL as the Asia Cup 2023 will be held in Sri Lanka as it would help him accumulate to the conditions.
“Salaam [Hello] Pakistan, Babar told me during the Sri Lanka Test series that he would be receiving the same amount of money for the Global T20 Canada league, which is for 10 [16] days, and the Colombo League [Lanka Premier League], which is for 25 days. The weather in Canada would also be very good, while it is intensely hot in Sri Lanka.
“I suggested playing the Sri Lanka League, also mentioning that the Asia Cup would also be held in the country. Pakistan could also play Afghanistan in Sri Lanka as well, and the experience of handling difficult wickets will also help in the World Cup,” he said.
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has been an exceptional performer for men in green in all three formats since his debut for Pakistan. The 28-year-old has been leading the Pakistan team since he took over the captaincy from Sarfraz Ahmed.
The stylish batter is already one of the dominant batters in the world, with age on his side he would improve his game just like Virat Kohli.

Babar Azam’s father said that it would have been tempting to play in the Global T20 leagues as it would have been good to play the matches in good weather in Canada and rest for the next 10 days at home ahead of the continental event and wants his son to do well for Pakistan in International Cricket.
“Those ten days of playing in the best weather and then ten days of rest at home are tempting, but he was prepared to do everything for the country. During a match recently in Sri Lanka, he had to sit and rest twice and he could not breathe properly in the heat,” he added.
“All I want to say is that no matter what we do, it should be for Pakistan. Long live Pakistan!”
The Pakistan skipper has been exceptional in the ODI format over the years. He will look to continue his consistent performance for the Men in Green in all three formats of the game and his form will be crucial for the team going into the Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023.
