India is set to begin their campaign of the much anticipated Asia Cup 2023 against the arch-rivals Pakistan on September 5 at the Pallekele International Stadium. The tournament shall be played between August 31 and September 17 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka being the joint of the tournament.
ACC and BCCI have finally accepted the hybrid model proposed by Pakistan. The event will be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with four games hosted in Pakistan. The announcement was delayed for various reasons with the venue being the biggest concern after BCCI announced that Team India will not visit Pakistan for the tournament citing security reasons.
According to the reports in Sportskeeda, India will play all their matches at Pallekele in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the grand opening game of the continental event will be played at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium between hosts Pakistan and Nepal.
The ACC has announced that a total of 13 matches will be played in the competition – 4 in Pakistan and 9 in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and debutant Nepal will be participating in the 16th edition of the Asia Cup.
The much-awaited India-Pakistan is likely to be played in Pallekele in Kandy as the rivalry between the neighbouring nations has come a long way as it carries a lot of emotions on and off the field between the players and citizens of both countries.
