Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer feels that prolific Indian batter Virat Kohli is the best cricketer at the moment but feels that the comparison with legendary Indian Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is not fair, as he dominated the game over a longer period of time in International Cricket.

The comparison between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar rises as the Indian batting maestro has been chasing the records of the master blaster in International cricket, who was one of the most celebrated Indian cricketers in the World. Both players have been the face of Indian cricket for a long time, inspiring millions to take up the game in the country.

Speaking at an event, Wasim Jaffer feels that legendary Sachin Tendulkar is a different player altogether, while Virat Kohli has drastically improved his game since his debut for the Indian team at the highest level.
Jaffer believes that the Indian batting maestro worked hard to get better in his game and lauded him for bringing in fitness level in the Indian cricketers and reckons that the master blaster is in a completely different league to be compared with Virat Kohli.

“Sachin was a different player altogether. Other than just being talented, he was hardworking, but I don’t think Virat Kohli was very talented. When I saw him in 2008, after the U19 World Cup, I felt he had a lot of flaws in his batting. He was young, wild, and expressive, but he wanted to get better. He had the confidence and the self-belief. He had faults in his batting as well,” Jaffer said.

“He understood that and changed himself in two years. It shows how hardworking he was. He was aware of the things he had to do to play better cricket. Other than that, I feel Virat played a massive part in boosting the fitness level of Indian cricketers,” he added.

“But Sachin was different. Virat himself agrees with that. Playing international cricket and facing the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Courtney Walsh at the age of 15-16, and playing well against them and continuing to do the same for 24 years and scoring 30,000 runs. So, Sachin is in a different league, but Virat is the best player of this generation,” he further stated.

Virat Kohli had a tough time in International cricket in recent years, failing to score a single century between (2019 to 2022) but he came roaring back and hammered his maiden T20I ton in the Asia Cup 2022 against Afghanistan and then proceeded to hammer 4 centuries in ODIs in a short period and would look to continue his fine form going into the Asia Cup 2023.
