Pakistan skipper Babar Azam said that their team enters the high-octane Asia Cup 2023 with more confidence rather than feeling the pressure of being the NO.1 ranked ODI team in the World Cricket. Pakistan will host the continental tournament alongside Sri Lanka in the hybrid model.

Pakistan will open their Asia Cup 2023 campaign against Nepal on their home soil on August 30, with the continental event being hosted in Pakistan after 15 long years. The Men in Green were too good against Afghanistan in a recently concluded three-match series, which helped them leapfrog Australia to get the top spot in the ODI cricket ranking.

Speaking to the media ahead of the clash against Nepal, Babar Azam has turned down pressure and expectations on the team going into the Asia Cup, as he said the team is high on confidence to do well in the continental event and asserted that the team is pumped up to win the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup.

I would not say that there is a pressure. Rather, we enter this tournament with more confidence. This team has put in a lot of hard work and effort over the last few years and our achieving the top spot is a testimony of it,” Babar Azam said.

“The job, however, is not done as we want to win the Asia Cup and the World Cup. We have some competitive and exciting next few months lined up and we are eager to do well for our country,” Babar Azam added.

Pakistan will walk in as one of the favourites to win the continental event starting on August 30. The Men in Green has been in fantastic form in ODI cricket as they produced some scintillating performances in recent times and would look to produce some brilliant performances in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023.

“Every player in this side wants to win matches for his country and raises their hand. They are always ready to put in the hard yards and never shy away from tough and difficult situations. We have had some amazing last few months and now it is time to build on the momentum,” Babar Azam added.

The 28-year-old will have a huge test in his captaincy skills as they will play Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 later this year, as his gameplay and captaincy will be crucial for their team in the ICC events.
