Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar analyzed the batting approach of the Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli going into the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka. The 34-year-old has begun his preparation for the continental event in a Preparatory camp at Alur, Bangalore.

Virat Kohli has returned to his usual best as he smashed three ODI hundreds in 2023 and will look to continue his form in ODI Cricket ahead of the important Asia Cup. The form of the Indian veteran will be crucial for the team’s success in Sri Lanka.

During a discussion with Star Sports, Sanjay Bangar spoke briefly about Virat Kohli’s batting approach against the spinners, as he tried to play a few sweep shots in the practice session and hailed him for his backfoot batting against the spinners and also believes that Virat Kohli’s improvement in feet moment as helped his game big time in International cricket.

“From the visuals that I have seen, it is very clear that Virat Kohli is targeting the mid-wicket region. We saw him play some big shots and sweep. Everybody knows that Kohli doesn’t play the sweep shot very often, so the field is set accordingly. He also played a lot of backfoot shots, using the depth of the crease.”

“Virat Kohli has been using his feet very well lately. There is a reason behind this improvement. There was a phase in between where he played with a high or a pre-loaded backlift. He is now playing bat tap, which is very helpful in judging the length of the ball. This is why his shot-making has become so brilliant,” Sanjay Bangar said.

The 34-year-old will be pumped up to do well against arch-rivals Pakistan in the continental event, as he will be a crucial player for India in the middle order. The six-nation Asia Cup 2023, which will be played in a 50-over format will be played from August 30th to September 17th, has grouped India and Pakistan with Nepal.

Shreyas Iyer And Shubman Gill Also Batted Together Today… – Sanjay Bangar On India’s Preparation For Asia Cup 2023

Sanjay Bangar explained the thought process behind the Indian team’s tactics to play various batting pairs in the practice session and said that Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill have batted together to ensure themselves getting to bat in the situation in case of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli get dismissed earlier.

“Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill also batted together today. This was because if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli get out early, those two will be at the crease. Similarly, if Virat is at the crease and the No. 4 gets out, India could promote a left-handed batter, which is why, he batted with Ravindra Jadeja and a provisional situation was created,” Sanjay Bangar concluded.

India kick-started their preparations for the Asia Cup 2023 on Thursday, with a preparatory camp in Alur Bangalore, where India has gathered full strength to get the team fully prepared for the high-octane event in Sri Lanka.
