Ask Pujara’s Wife If She Wants Pujara To Take A Break, Says KL Rahul
With a marathon home season, that saw the Indian team playing 13 Tests in six months, coming to an end, the exhausted Indian players would have liked to take some time way from the game. However, the majority of the players would not get the chance as they will be playing in the Indian Premier League, starting from April 5. However, one player who can enjoy some time off from the cricket field is Cheteshwar Pujara as he is not a part of the cash-rich T20 league.
The Saurashtra star, who has been India’s batting mainstay throughout this season, once again starred with the bat in the recently concluded series against Australia. The right-handed batsman, who has scored over 2,000 first class runs this season, has scored heavily in all the series. In the series against New Zealand in October, he smashed 373 runs at an average of over 74 with three fifties and one century. In the England series, he scored 401 runs at an average of 50 with two centuries to set up India’s 4-0 series triumph. In the one-off Test against Bangladesh, he slammed 83 while in the series against Australia, he scored 405 with the help of a double century and a couple of half-centuries.
But despite playing throughout this long season, the 29-year old batsman is in no mood to relax. After India’s thumping 8-wicket win over Australia in Dharamsala, he was asked by Ravi Shastri whether he needs a break.
“Over 2,000 first class runs, does Pujara need a break at the end of this all?” asked Shastri.
“Not really, I would say. I will still like to keep going if there are few more matches because I have been batting well. I am enjoying my cricket,” said Pujara as his wife, Puja, was seen smiling and clapping from the stands.
“But all in all it was a fantastic season for me personally and even as a team, we wanted to be number one in the Test rankings. And the way we have played throughout the home season was fantastic. So, I really enjoyed this particular season. So, I would like to continue this form even in the next season,” Pujara added.
And with a serious talk going on between Pujara and Shastri, India opener made KL Rahul intervened to make a witty remark that left everyone including Pujara’s wife in splits.
“You should ask Pujara’s wife if she wants Pujara to take a break. She will be the best one to tell that,” Rahul quipped.
