According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the former director of Indian Cricket Team Ravi Shastri, while submitting his application for the post of head coach of the Indian team has made it clear to BCCI that he wants his old set of the coaching staff to be retained in case he is selected for the Post.
The old staff includes the bowling coach Bharat Arun, Batting coach Sanjay Bangar, Fielding coach R. Sridhar, Physiologist Patrick Farhat, Team trainer Sankar Basu and team assistant Raghu. Shastri has been working with these from past 18 months and shares good relation and coordination with them. He is reluctant to make a change in his old coaching army.
BCCI too has made it clear that the new head coach will be given full opportunity to select his team of assistants.
“Whatever is required by the BCCI, I have provided them. If you ask me whether I am confident or not, all I can say is that my job was to apply for the post and I have done that. I cannot comment on anything else.” quoted Shastri to a news agency.
Shastri faces a stiff challenge from Sandeep Patil, Venkatesh Prasad and Balwinder Singh Sandhu who are also in the race of head coach of the Indian team. Tomorrow is the last day to apply for the post of head coach and the aspirants who fulfil the criteria can apply till tomorrow.
