Australia Prepared for Ben Stokes if he plays: Darren Lehman

The England all-rounder Ben Stokes saga hasn’t had much effect on Australia coach Darren Lehman; however, he admitted that his team would be ready if the star all-rounder features in the upcoming Ashes as it has been speculated. The Magellan Ashes Down Under starts at Gabba from next week, while there is no clarity yet about Stokes taking part in this intensely-fought battle two months after the Bristol incident took place where Stokes was accused of causing bodily harm to a person.

Stokes was suspended by the England and Wales Cricket Broad (ECB) till the police investigation. Reportedly, the local police are set to decide this week whether Stokes will be charged. However, there are rumours that the highly-rated cricketer will receive a two-match ban from the country’s board before joining the squad for the WACA Test starting from December 14.

“You’re always planning for every player, even though he’s not in the squad. We’ll just wait and see what happens with ECB and the courts. We can’t worry about it at the moment,” Lehman was heard saying to the reporters.

Stokes has the capability of winning the game with both bat and ball, and the touring side missed him on the last day of the final practice game when young Jason Sangha and Matt Short batted for a four-and-a-half hour together for a 263-run stand in Townsville playing the visitors’ attack with much ease.

“They haven’t got him here, so they can’t miss him. They’ve got their squad that they think can win the Ashes. For us, it’s more of a case of dealing with the squad they’ve got here. He’s obviously a high-quality player. That’s up to them,” the former left-handed batsman further stated.

Recently, Stokes posted a video on social media where he was seen bowling in the nets at Durham. England legend Ian Botham recently remarked that Stokes would “go through the processes, but I would not be surprised to see him here sooner rather than later”.

“They’ve been solid. They’ve got what they need to,” he said.

“You’re just getting prepared and fine-tuned for the games ahead. “They’ve had some good performances, we’ve seen a couple of things we like and hopefully we can play on that a bit,” Lehman signed off.
