If Australia Register Big Wins Over Pakistan, India Better Watch Out: Sunil Gavaskar
In a Television post-match show, the former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar stated that Australia can’t be written off as they have regrouped well so far and India should be wary when they will be touring the country for the four-match Border-Gavaskar Test series which is scheduled for February 23.
“If Australian team is going to register some big wins over Pakistan during the ongoing Test series, India better to watch out for,” Gavaskar said while responding to a question – How you see the current Australian side touring to India?
After the poor show against Sri Lanka and then South Africa in a three-match Test series; Australia bounced back while going through a major shift in Cricket Australia by including the four uncapped players against Proteas in the day-night Adelaide Test.
On the other hand, Team India is sitting at the No. 1 in the ICC Test Rankings and is eyeing to clinch the ongoing 5-match Test series 4-0 against England to continue their merry home-run in Tests.
In home conditions, the hosts’ always try to seize the opportunity to come hard against their opponents and the India tour won’t be that easy for the visiting Australia.
On the subcontinent wickets, Aussie bowlers had to bend their backs to draw the results in their favour while also focusing on their line and length.
However, Steven Smith’s new-look team has utilised the bouncy tracks quite well at home, but the question further arises that how they would be tackling the spin arsenal of India with such an inexperienced side in line for the national duty?
In 2013, India whitewashed Australia 4-0 when they toured for a Border-Gavaskar Test series.
In 2014-15, after the death of Phil Hughes, Australia regained the trophy by winning the four-match Test series 2-0.
