The Australia’s tour to West Indies started on a great note for the visitors as they won the first test within 3 days and blew away the hosts. However, the fans and the players are now asked to remain vigilant after a travelling journalist from Australia was mugged by two men armed with knives.

The assistant editor of ESPN Cricinfo, Daniel Bretigg was in Roseau for the first Test. The incident occurred when he was trying to withdraw cash from an ATM at 10 in the night. Cricket.com.au an Australian website posted that Bretigg was slammed on to the floor face first and was deprived of his phone and his wallet. He was later treated at a local hospital for a bloody nose and some minor injuries.

The Australian team was advised by Gavin Dovey to be extra cautious on the tour as this was not the first incident to be reported in the island. Earlier, a TenSports employee and an Australian fan were also attacked in a similar manner.

However, Bretigg was in no mood to allow the incident to affect his love towards the nation posted on a social site of his gratefulness towards everyone who was kind to him. He said that he was lucky and that it could have been much worse. But he also said that he thinks that this was a one-off incident and that he still respects the city of Dominica.

The first Test at the capital saw Australia take a 1-0 lead in the 2 test series as Adam Voges helped Australia to post a healthy total on his debut. However, the collapse from West Indies in both Innings cost them the match and will want to improve on their strength in the middle order before they take on Australia in the second test at Kingston starting on Thursday.
