Riding on Murali Vijay’s unbeaten knock of 55, Indian team started their first innings on a strong note and finished the day 2 on 108/1.

In reply to Australia massive total of 530, Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay started confidently and shared a 55-run partnership before Dhawan lost his wicket to Ryan Harris. Dhawan scored 28. Cheteshwar Pujara came in at number three and started off nicely before Brad Haddin dropped him off Josh Hazlewood’s bowling when he was on 12. Then both he and Vijay played steadily till the end of the day and made sure that India didn’t any more wickets going into the all-important day 3.

Earlier, Australia started the day on 259/5 and Steve Smith carried on from where he left to bring up his 3rd century of the series. Smith got a good support from Brad Haddin, who finally struck some form and scored the first fifty of his series. Haddin scored 55 before getting out to Mohammad Shami. Mitchell Johnson came in and put on a 51-run partnership with Smith, before getting stumped for 28 by MS Dhoni off R Ashwin’s bowling. Then Smith got a great partner in Ryan Harris and the duo added 106 runs for the 8th wicket, out of which, 74 were scored by Ryan Harris. As Harris got out, Australia lost its last two wickets in a aspan of another 48 runs. Smith was the last man to get out. He scored 192 before getting bowled to Umesh Yadav.

Mohammad Shami was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he picked up 4 wickets. Umesh Yadav and R Ashwin picked up 3 wickets each.
