Australia vs India: 1st Test: Stats during 1st Day's play
The Border-Gavaskar Test series between Australia and India started in a good fashion with both the team paying tribute to Phillip Hughes. During the first day play, there are some interesting stats to be looked at.
Stats during 1st day play:
–> First time since January, 1986 (Jan 2-6, 1986 at Sydney), India is playing a Test in Australia without Sachin Tendulkar.
David Warner completed his 10th Test Century in 106 balls which was his second century at Adelaide and second against India.
This was also Warner’s fifth Test century in 2014 and has more runs for 2014 than any other opener.
–> David Warner’s last ten Test innings read: 115, 70, 66, 135, 145, 133, 29, 19, 58 and 145.
In five of the last 10 innings, Warner managed to score a ton and on other three occasions he made half century.
–> Virat Kohli became the 32nd Test Captain for India.
Virat Kohli became Captain in his 30th Test of his career, whereas MS Dhoni became in his 29th Test match.
–> Since his debut in February, 2010 at Nagpur against South Africa, Wriddhiman Saha is playing in his only the third Test.
The other test was also against Australia and at Adelaide which was in 2011/12 tour.
–> For the fifth time, Nathan Lyon was sent as Night-watchman for Australian batting.
In other four occasions, when Lyon came as Night watchman, Australia ended on losing end.
–> Karn Sharma became the 4th Leg Spinner for India in Tests since Anil Kumble.
Other three Leg Spinners were Sai Raj Bahutule, Piyush Chawla and Amit Mishra.
