Australia vs India 2018/19: 3rd Test – Statistical Highlights

India, on Sunday, bowled out Australia for 261 to win the third Test by 137 runs.  Chasing an improbable 399, the hosts could add only add three runs to their overnight score of 258 for 8. As a result of the win, India have not only taken an unassailable 2-1 lead in the four-match series but have also retained the Border-Gavaskar series. India had won the last Test series 2-1.

Now with the game all done and dusted, we take a look at the statistical highlights:

1. India registered their first win at the Melbourne Cricket Ground since 1981

2. Jasprit Bumrah became the first Asian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in each of Australia, England and South Africa in the same calendar year. Remarkably, this is Bumrah’s first year in Test cricket, having made his debut during the South Africa tour earlier this year.

3. India have won 4 Tests this year outside the subcontinent (Johannesburg, Trent Bridge, Adelaide and Melbourne) which is most for them in a calendar year.

4. Jasprit Bumrah ended the game with 9 wickets to bag the Man of the Match award. He picked a career best 6 for 33 in the first innings and followed it up with another 3 wickets in the second innings. His 9 wickets are now the most by an Indian pacer in a Test match in Australia.

5. Virat Kohli has now moved level with former India skipper Sourav Ganguly after registering 11 overseas wins as skipper.
