2019 doesn’t seem to start too well for Australia. First, they failed to win the Border-Gavaskar trophy, and now they have suffered a blow ahead of India ODIs. Sydney One-Day, scheduled on Saturday (January 12th) will not see Mitchell Marsh playing; as the all-rounder is suffering from gastritis. Meanwhile, for two days, Marsh was in the hospital, as he remains certain to give SCG game a skip. Furthermore, Australia has named Ashton Turner as his replacement.
Lightening-fast Turner will boost camp’s confidence – Langer
Justin Langer, the Australia coach, confirmed about Marsh’s unavailability. Speaking on the newcomer, Justin says he has been watching Turner play for a long time now. Known for finishing the innings, Ashton Turner could be a vital cog in the side; given Australia needs match-winners heading into the 2019 World Cup. Furthermore, Justin revealed how Michael Hussey talked about Turner’s running between the wickets.
“I remember when Mike Hussey came into Australian cricket, the thing that almost got him a shot in the one-day side was his running between his wickets,” Langer said.
The coach also opined that the reason might sound a bit dumb, but his running is all but incredible. The head coach added, Turner being the skipper and an athlete far excellence will only benefit Australia.
“That might sound like the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard but you watch Ashton Turner, the way he runs between wickets is unbelievable. He’s such a great athlete, it puts so much pressure (on the opposition). He can finish the innings off well, an elite athlete in the field and he’s also a captain,” he added.
Australia aims to turn the fortunes
Australia recently lost the Border-Gavaskar trophy to India National Cricket Team. However, they would be more than keen to turn their fortunes in the white-ball cricket; aiming to beat India in the three-match ODI series.
Meanwhile, Ashton Turner has joined the Australia National Cricket Team squad and will be available for selection for the first ODI.
